1: Hepatitis B You are 100 times more likely to get the hepatitis B virus than HIV from a needle stick injury. Hepatitis B, which is caused by the HBV pathogen, is a potentially serious liver infection that can lead to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. HBV has been found in blood, vaginal secretions, semen, and saliva. It can be transmitted through mucous membranes and breaks in the skin. Signs and symptoms of hepatitis B include: - Anorexia
