1: Patient care concerns of the newborn, infant, and toddler The Newborn Illness is extremely distressing for a newborn, and for the parents. The homecare worker should be supportive of the parents. Involve them in the care of the newborn, and request that they stay with the child during visits. - Use a soft voice
- Encourage the mother or primary caregiver to stay with the newborn when giving care
- Encourage the mother in nurturing physical contact with the newborn
- Involve parents or other primary caregivers in care decisions
- Remind parents about hygiene when handling the newborn or preparing food.
