Course Sample:
1: Safety concerns of the newborn, infant, and toddler The Newborn Always put a young infant to sleep on his/her back to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Make sure that the crib rails are up at all times, and keep small objects away from the newborn. Test the temperature of bath water with the inside of the wrist, and never leave the infant unattended in the bath. Falls - Hold the newborn firmly and support the head.
- Always keep one hand on the newborn when on a table, bed, or scale.
Car Seats - Use a rear-facing car seat.
- Place the car seat in the center of the back seat whenever possible.
- Never place a car seat in a seat fitted with an airbag.
